Well
dear reader…. I’m not feeling it this weekend. Unmotivated, uninspired, and did
I mention unmotivated? So I present you with the question. What gets you guys
riled up and ready to sit down in front of a mix for hours on end? I know this
blog is technically about Tech, Tips, and Tricks… But the motivation to utilize
the tools is every bit as important as any $75,000 piece of gear. I guess my
real question is how do you make the motivation carry over in to the project?
Do you use reference tracks and undergo a constant A/B process or do you just
take the sound in your head, sit down, and grind it out? I ask this question
because the times in which I am at my peak of creativity and motivation, its
always sourced from just a random spur of the moment impulse to sit down and
start inching faders. Also, what do you do when your unfortunate/fortunate
enough to not have anything to work on? As a struggling student/engineer, I can
only get artists to work so much and at some points you experience lulls in
productivity, and I know you guys are probably at home saying “Just get more
clients man…” or “Perfect mixes you’ve already worked on…” Well… first of all,
you magically acquire more clients and get back to me and second… There is only
so much perfecting you can do to a mix before you just start to run around in
circles. So you tell me dear reader… How do I get my ass back in gear?
Sometimes just getting outside and taking in some natural light motivates me (although its been rather cold outside!). Opening the blinds works well, too.
